A helicopter carrying at least seven people crashed near Terrace, British Columbia, an executive at a local volunteer rescue group said Monday.
No deaths have been confirmed, but some of those on board the heli-skiing flight were hospitalized with serious injuries, said David Jephson of Terrace Search and Rescue. Other choppers in the area were converging near the crash site to help with search-and-rescue efforts as night approached.
It was not clear what caused the crash, but Terrace Search and Rescue first received reports about the crash just before 4 p.m. local time, he said.
Terrace is a town of 12,000 residents about 70 miles from the Alaskan border. The local Mills Memorial Hospital was preparing to receive patients from the crash, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. A person at the hospital declined to comment about the incident or the conditions of the patients.
