Nicola Coughlan seemingly finds it comforting to play the character of a wallflower.
The Bridgerton star, who plays Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s period series, recently had a candid chat with Harper’s Bazaar.
During this chat, the Irish actress confessed that she would rather play the role of a “oddball in the corner” than a “centre-stage” character.
“I’m in disbelief that I’m the leading lady in a romance show,” Nicola confessed.
Getting candid about her feelings of leading the upcoming season of Netflix’s Bridgerton, the acting sensation explained, “The major difference is that in the first two seasons, Pen was a supporting character, the oddball in the corner, but this time she’s very much centre-stage.”
She even mentioned, “The only issue with this is that ‘oddball in the corner’ is actually a niche I do very well. I’m comfortable there! Strange girl no one pays attention to? Where do I sign up?”
Wrapping up the topic, the actress expressed that her disbelief is “not because I find myself hideous, as some people have assumed when I say that (I’ll have you know, in the right lighting I’m a solid seven), but because it’s not something I ever dreamed of,” before noting, “It’s hard for me to comprehend it.”
