Apple is expected to announce fresh new iPads, including the iPad Air, iPad mini and the entry-level iPad with updated internals this week.

Apple wrapped up its ‘Wonderlust’ event, where it launched the iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Series 9 last month in September. Notably, there were no updates for any of the iPads during that event. However, as the company has been doing for the last few years, Apple is expected to announce fresh new iPads with updated internals this week, as reported by Supercharged.

The journalist responsible for this information, Sami Fathi, has a track record of accurately predicting the launch of the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets earlier this year. Now, he reports that Apple is briefing select media about the new iPads coming later this week.

According to the report, Apple could update the iPad Air, iPad mini, and the standard iPad with newer internals as part of this launch, and it could happen as soon as October 17 this week.

As rumoured before, the iPad Air could be upgraded to the M2 chipset, bringing it in line with the iPad Pro, while the Apple iPad mini could get the Apple A16 Bionic chip, the same SoC powering the vanilla iPhone 15 models.

Overall, the upgrades are expected to focus on bringing the existing iPads in line with current and improved internals. However, according to Supercharged, Apple will not conduct a dedicated event for this announcement; instead, it will launch the products via announcements on its website and YouTube, along with a press release—potentailly following the same strategy it used when launching the iPad Pro with M2 chipsets and even the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors.
