Could Apple be making a foldable MacBook?
Ming-Chi Kuo has hinted that Apple could be working on a massive 20-inch MacBook with a foldable display. Here’s what we know so far.
So far, we have heard multiple rumors about Apple’s folding device. Some reports suggest that it could be a foldable iPad in an iPad mini-like form factor, while others say it might be a flip-style foldable similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series. However, now, there’s a twist in the tale. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for accurately predicting Apple’s moves, has hinted that Apple could be working on a massive 20-inch MacBook with a foldable display, which aligns with a few other reports as well.
“Recently, I’ve received many inquiries about whether Apple plans to mass-produce the foldable iPhone or iPad in 2025 or 2026. My latest survey indicates that currently, Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to enter mass production in 2027,” Ming-Chi Kuo said on X (formerly Twitter). However, that was all that Kuo said about the same.
It would be interesting to see a foldable MacBook, to say the least. Currently, the largest MacBook Apple sells is the 16-inch model with the M3 lineup of chipsets. Earlier, the brand had a 17-inch model as well, but it has long been discontinued.
Now, when you think about it, it isn’t practical to make a consumer-grade laptop with a 20-inch display for Apple, for obvious reasons. However, if there existed a laptop screen that could unfold to reveal a bigger display, it would make for an interesting proposition.
That said, these are early-stage rumors at this point in time, and, as before, Apple’s plans can always change. Therefore, this piece of information should be taken with a grain of salt until we have something concrete.
