The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday asked the Central government not to conduct any activities related to the proposed ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ in the five election-bound states and Nagaland’s Tapi constituency till December 5 as provisions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) are in place.

“The provisions of the Model Code of Conduct for the guidance of political parties and candidates have come into force from the date of announcement tentatively till 5 December 2023. In view of the foregoing, the Commission has directed that the aforesaid activities should not be taken in the constituencies where Model Code of Conduct is in force up till 5th December 2023,” the ECI wrote.
Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra
The ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Khunti in Jharkhand next month. It will be flagged off on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda which is celebrated as Janajatiya Gaurav Divas on November 15. It will go on until January 25.
It is aimed at the vulnerable group who are eligible for benefits under various government schemes but were yet to receive any.
As part of the outreach programme, more than 2,500 mobile performing vans and over 200 mobile theatre vans will be pressed into service to cover nearly 2.55 lakh Gram panchayats and clusters in all cities and towns of India. These vans will be branded with different government schemes.
The event has been conceptualised with the Ministry of Agriculture as the nodal ministry for the rural campaign and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in urban campaign.
