Rajasthan Election 2023

Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur has hit out at the Congress party’s “failed governance and inability to deliver poll promises” including in his home state. “Nothing has been done after the promises were made by the Congress-led Himachal government that they will deposit Rs 1,500 into the account of girls between the age of 17 and 18 and also implement the old pension scheme but that too has not seen the light of day, leaving everybody including officers confused,” Thakur told CNN-News18.

While campaigning for the saffron party in poll-bound Rajasthan, Thakur once again said that nobody takes the electoral promises made by the Congress party seriously. He said that these promises have been made only for vote-bank politics. “People are beginning to realise that freebies are not a good culture and rightly so. Some political parties have made it an agenda to promise something to people during elections and not do any work after forming the government. The people of Himachal Pradesh have been at the receiving end,” he said.

Speaking about one of the important promises made by the Congress party in the last Rajasthan election where Rahul Gandhi talked about a farm loan waiver, Thakur said it was only a promise in words, which saw no implementation in the five years of the Ashok Gehlot government. “This pattern of the Congress party is now well and truly exposed,” he said. “Not only is this a lesson, but a very crucial one for parties like the Congress, who make people believe that they only make promises to get power. Society is beginning to understand this and won’t buy these lies anymore. The track record of the Congress party is the same, whether in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, or any other state.”

Several poll promises, including 10 major ones made by the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led ruling Congress in Himachal Pradesh are yet to see the light of day. The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that leaving aside some big promises like the implementation of OPS, the Himachal Pradesh government has failed to push through the stalled development projects in the state. Another failure, the BJP says, has been being unable to provide 5 lakh jobs to the youth as well as the promise of 300 units of free electricity.
