In Gaza, the historic Church of St. Porphyrius was struck as it sheltered hundreds of Palestinians displaced by the war, according to religious officials. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem blamed Israel for Thursday’s strike on the church, where rescuers were still digging through the rubble early Friday. Israel said a strike on a Hamas target in the area “damaged the wall of a church” and that it was “aware of reports on casualties.”
