iPhone 16 may feature an iPhone 12-like camera layout.
Unlike the iPhone 15, 14, and 13, the iPhone 16 may have a vertical camera layout to enable an important feature. Here’s what we know.
While the iPhone 16 series is still several months away, with an official launch expected in September later this year, speculation is rampant about the potential features of the next mainline iPhones. So far, we’ve heard multiple rumors about the more expensive top-end iPhone 16 Pro models, but now, new information about the vanilla iPhone 16 is also surfacing.
In the latest leak, tipster Majin Bu has shared hardware information about the iPhone 16, revealing the alleged camera housing of the device. Unlike the iPhone 15, 14, and 13, the iPhone 16 may have a vertical camera layout, reminiscent of what we saw with the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12.
Notably, this change could enable Spatial Video recording on the vanilla iPhones, as it is currently only possible on the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro models. When you pay attention to the iPhone 15 Pro’s triple camera layout, you will observe that Apple has placed the main camera and the ultra-wide sensor in alignment, directly on top of each other.
This makes sense with the Apple Vision Pro now available. After all, playing back Spatial Videos is a feature that Apple pays a lot of marketing attention to, and not having the ability to record them with the cheaper vanilla phones could prove to be a bad look for the company.
That said, these are just rumors for now, and until we have something more concrete, they should be taken with a grain of salt.
