Champai Soren LIVE Updates: Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Jharkhand, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren moved to the Supreme Court with a plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case pertaining to an alleged land scam. A three judges bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna will hear Soren’s plea at 10:30 am today. The bench will also comprise of Justices M M Sundaresh and Bela Trivedi.
On Wednesday, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after over seven hours of questioning on money laundering charges in an alleged land fraud case. On Thursday, he knocked the doors of the apex court challenging his arrest, In his plea to the SC he alleged that the central prove agency’s plea is on the behest of central government aiming to topple the Jharkhand government.
Before his arrest, Soren tendered his resignation as Jharkhand chief minister to Governor CP Radhakrishnan. He will be replaced by JMM leader Champai Soren who has been serving as the state’s Transport minister. The Raj Bhawan on Thursday evening invited him to form the government in Jharkhand. The oath ceremony is likely to take place today at 12pm. The announcement comes hours after Champai Soren met Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan along with 42 other MLAs and urged him to accept his claim to form the government at the earliest as there was “confusion” in the state.
