Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s stance to “go across the border to kill terrorists if needed” while targeting Congress for questioning the 2019 surgical strike against Pakistan.
“We will not spare anyone of them (terrorists)…will kill them in India and outside if required,” Singh said while addressing a public meeting in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu on Sunday.
In an exclusive interview with News18 on Friday, the Defence Minister had asserted that the government will give a befitting reply to any terrorist who tries to disturb peace in India.
“If he [terrorist] flees to Pakistan, we will follow him and take him down on Pakistani soil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken the truth… India has the capability and Pakistan has also started understanding that,” Singh had said when asked about a report in UK newspaper The Guardian that claimed the Indian government ordered assassinations in Pakistan as part of a wider strategy to eliminate terrorists on foreign soil.
“India wants to maintain cordial relations with its neighbour. Look at our history. We have never attacked any country or even occupied an inch of the territory of any other country. This is India’s character,” Singh had further stated in the interview, adding that however, “if someone tries intimidating India by fomenting terror on our soil, they will not be spared”.
While addressing a public gathering in Jhunjhunu earlier in the day, the Defence Minister said he feels hurt when the Congress raises questions over surgical strikes and air strikes.
“I feel pained when the Congress tries to raise questions over power, the valour of defence forces. What our forces did at that time should be appreciated and should not cast doubt on it,” Rajnath Singh was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
“The Congress cannot digest things be it surgical or air strikes, they are questioning them. Are they doubting the bravery of the country? The world has accepted, but the Congress is questioning,” he added.
