Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood shared his optimism about Pakistan’s advantage heading into the upcoming Test match against Australia in Perth.

Masood highlighted the team’s past experiences at the Perth Stadium, emphasizing the valuable insights gained from their previous encounters at the venue.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Masood recalled Pakistan’s tour to Australia in 2019, where they played a side match against a strong Australia-A side. Despite the match ending in a draw, Masood pointed out Pakistan’s impressive performance, scoring around 400 in the first innings and restricting Australia to 100.

“The aspect which is in our favor is that when we came here in 2019, we played a first-class match against Australia, and their bowling lineup was quite strong. Three players who are part of the current setup and played in that match were Jhye Richardson, Michael Neser, Sean Abbott, and the fourth one was Riley Meredith. Their batting was also strong, featuring players like Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Marcus Harris, and Joe Burns. So, their side was pretty good, and in the match, we scored around 400 in the first innings, and then got them out for 100. The match ended in a draw as it was a three-day game, but both our batting and bowling performances were quite impressive,” Shan said.

Moreover, Masood highlighted the team’s recent experience at the Perth venue during the World Cup, where they gained valuable insights into the conditions. This exposure, according to Masood, provides Pakistan with a unique advantage compared to other touring sides.

“Then last year, when we went to the World Cup, we gained the feel and experience of that ground. As a batting unit, some bowlers were also present there. So, we will look at this aspect in a way that it has given us a bit of an advantage compared to other touring sides. We have some idea of these conditions, and we will try to utilize the experience we have gained in these conditions. We will make an effort to apply what we have learned against a team like Australia,” he further added.
