The man who shot Shiv Sena leader Ghosalkar, was popularly known as ‘Mauris bhai’, as per his social media handle

In a shocking incident, former Shiv Sena UBT corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead on Thursday by a notorious criminal Mauris Noronha in Mumbai’s IC colony over a personal dispute, while the duo was hosting a Facebook live.

As per reports, Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of Shivsena (UBT) leader Vinod Ghosalkar, was shot thrice, following which Morris, shot himself.

A viral video of the incident, which took place at assailant Mauris Noronha’s office in IC Colony in the northern suburb of Borivali (West), showed Ghosalkar being shot in the abdomen and shoulder.

The Shiv Sena leader was immediately rushed to Karuna Hospital in Borivali in a serious condition. Both have been declared dead by the authorities.

Who was Mauris Noronha?

The man who shot Shiv Sena leader Ghosalkar, was popularly known as ‘Mauris bhai’, as per his social media handle. He described himself as a philanthropist and social worker.

Ghosalkar and Noronha had “personal enmity” but the Facebook live was arranged to clarify that they had come together ending their bitterness for the betterment of the IC Colony area, police said.

According to a Hindustan Times report, Mauris was trying to enter the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena. Both Noronha and Ghosalkar apparently wanted to contest from Ward No 1.

Mumbai police also found cases of cheating, attempt to murder, threat and rape against Moris in the past. The allegations are from 2014 but the complaint was lodged in 2022, following which Noronha was arrested.

After Thursday’s incident, a photo of Mauris receiving an award from Amruta Fadnavis, wife of deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis caught attention online, as per the HT report.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut alleged in a post on X that Shinde had met Noronha at the chief minister’s official residence `Varsha’, four days ago, and had invited him to join the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

The incident comes days after a BJP MLA was caught on camera firing at an Eknath Shinde faction leader inside a police station at Ulhasnagar.
